Designated charity

Cheapflights was introduced to IMPACT by our Founder, John Hatt.

John, originally a travel journalist, was keen to be involved with the work of IMPACT, having seen at first hand their work in India and Bangladesh, and is today a trustee of the charity.

IMPACT asks the question:
Why, when most of the causes are preventable or treatable, are the lives of 500 million men, women and children affected by disability in our world?
IMPACT's aim is simple:
No one should become or remain needlessly disabled by disease, lack of knowledge, or shortage of medical supplies.

Cheapflights has chosen to sponsor IMPACT as its designated charity because:

  • They have a pragmatic and a-political mission, which offers hope and opportunity to those who are needlessly trapped in poverty by disability.
  • Projects are run by local people in touch with real need - they also contribute resources ensuring that the work is cost-effective and appropriate.
  • The Boat of Life (Floating hospital - Bangladesh) and the Lifeline Express (Hospital Train - India) are ambitious but effective projects that captured our imagination.
  • Their track record of restoring sight, mobility and hearing to over 50,000 people speaks for itself.
  • Our Founder, John, having seen Impact's work, has given his thumbs up to this effective and efficient charity.

Cheapflights offers IMPACT its full support and where possible seeks to raise awareness of their work.

IMPACT uses straightforward, low-cost methods to reduce the incidence of needless disability. Priorities for action are:

  • Making surgery accessible by taking the hospital to the people
  • Universal immunisation against disabling disease
  • Safer motherhood and child survival preventing disability at the heart of family life
  • Ending "hidden hunger" because lack of essential micro nutrients causes mental and physical disability
  • Early identification and treatment of disabling conditions before they cause long-lasting damage
  • Active ageing to ensure people remain healthy and retain independence throughout their lives
  • Poverty alleviation since poverty is a prime cause and consequence of disability

Working with local partners in the UK and in some of the world's least developed communities, IMPACT is taking action today to prevent disability tomorrow.

With your support, IMPACT can change the life of another person.

Thanks to the input of local resources, the cost to IMPACT of restoring sight, hearing or mobility to another person overseas is just £25.
