Cheapflights viewers hit new highs amid dot.com fears

Back to the 2000 Press Releases

cheapflights.com, one of the UK's top five travel websites, has announced record viewers for October. The site received 482,000 unique visitors last month, whilst page impressions exceeded 5.4 million (Source: Doubleclick Inc). These figures represent an increase of nine per cent and seven per cent, respectively, on September.

cheapflights.com is continuing to report record visitors month on month. The site is clearly bucking the current belief that 'overcrowding' in the travel web space will lead to falling visitor figures for many of the dot.coms.

Commenting on these figures, David Soskin, joint chief executive officer, said:

"These figures show that, despite the seasonality of the travel business, cheapflights continues to grow rapidly. This is partly due to increasing penetration of the internet into peoples' homes. I have no doubt too that the gridlock on the railways and the appalling October weather has led internet users to the cheapflights site.

"This shows once again, that to be a leading travel site in Britain does not require a marketing spend of millions of pounds, but rather a product which internet users find both simple to use and useful to research."

Editor's Notes: www.cheapflights.com, which was founded in 1996, is the most comprehensive online resource for researching cheap airfares. Its many destination pages also enable independent travellers to research and prepare every aspect of their trip.
