Leading travel portal cheapflights.com today announced the results from its third quarter traffic, which showed a record 1.4 million unique users visiting its site between July and September. Over 16.6 million page impressions were registered. This represents a 38 per cent increase over traffic levels during this period in 1999.
The privately-owned company has also revealed the results of its first research into visitors to the site. Young professionals are clearly a key market for travel on the internet, with forty-four per cent of respondents in the 25-34 age range.
'Silver surfers' are also shown to be becoming increasingly internet-savvy with the over 50's representing ten per cent of users. Fifty-five per cent visitors to the site are female.
A surprising 17 per cent of respondents fly more than eight times a year, proving that the frequent traveller wants to ensure they obtain the best flight prices possible.

It seems that, despite millions being poured into high-profile promotional programmes by some other travel web companies, cheapflights.com remains a firm favourite with British internet users. cheapflights.com is one of the UK's top travel websites. In August Net Value, the market research firm, revealed that cheapflights.com is Britain's fourth biggest travel website in terms of users. More recently, the site was voted as one of the five most popular UK travel websites by a poll of Daily Telegraph readers.
