cheapflights.com, Britain's leading independent travel portal, announced today it received a record number of viewers in January. 671,000 unique visitors logged onto the site during the month, an increase of 98% over December 2000 (source: Doubleclick Inc). This also represents an increase of 77% over January 2000 when visitors to the site amounted to 379,000.
Cheapflights offers some of the best bargains available on the net. For example, www.cheapflights.com's current Holiday of the Week offers seven nights, room only, at the Sandcastles Resort in Jamaica for £559 during February. The price includes return scheduled flights and transfers. Local departure taxes (US$21) are not included.
One of the many bargain flights on offer is Heathrow to New York for £169, including return flights and taxes, valid for departures from 8 February to the end of the month. Flights are with Virgin and are based on a six-night stay.
David Soskin, joint chief executive officer, www.cheapflights.com said today, "We are thrilled by this surge in our traffic. January is always a good month for bookings, but this huge increase in viewers comes at a time when the industry is facing more competition, discounting issues and an increasingly demanding public.
"We do not take our viewers for granted. More visitors to the site cannot simply be generated by marketing spend alone and we are constantly working to improve our product. We want to continue to evolve a website that viewers return to time after time. We believe that our success is due to the discerning British public who clearly like transparency and simplicity when buying flights and holiday products.
"We are grateful to our viewers for their continued support and to our 200 travel partners for providing a fantastic range of prices and offers."
Editor's Notes:www.cheapflights.com, which was founded in 1996, is the most comprehensive online resource in the UK for researching cheap airfares. Its many destination pages also enable independent travellers to research and prepare every aspect of their trip.
In August, Net Value, the market research firm, revealed that cheapflights.com is Britain's fourth biggest travel website in terms of users. More recently, the site was voted as one of the five most popular UK travel websites by a poll of Daily Telegraph readers.
