Amsterdam and Canary Islands achieve top clicks

Back to the 2002 Press Releases

Amsterdam is the UK's top short break destination according to Cheapflights.co.uk's latest league table. Short break destinations increasing in popularity include Prague and Barcelona, while a new entry to the list is Las Vegas.

The top ten short break destinations are as follows:-

1. Amsterdam 2. Barcelona 3. Prague 4. Paris 5. Dublin 6. New York 7. Rome 8. Venice 9. Las Vegas 10. Madrid

David Soskin, chief executive officer, Cheapflights.co.uk, commented: "Amsterdam, a firm favourite for British and Irish travellers, has retained its appeal as the top short break choice. The surprise lies in the new-found popularity of more unusual short break destinations such as Las Vegas, and just missing a place in the top ten, Reykjavik in eleventh place. We are delighted to see two American destinations featuring in the top ten, supporting our key US travel partners."

Cheapflights.co.uk's dedicated Holiday section has seen a doubling in traffic during 2002 with page impressions now running at well over one million per month.

The Canary Islands achieved the top selection within both Cheapflights.co.uk's Holiday and Cheap Sun sections (featuring holidays up to £299). Florida was the runner up in both these categories.

In the Skiing holiday section, France proved the most popular country for winter sports, followed by Austria. Within Cheapflights.co.uk's specialist interest sections, clubbing, golf and walking holidays have attracted the most interest since the beginning of 2002.

Cheapflights.co.uk continues to expand its position as the online travel resource. Soskin added, "We are delighted to be working with so many suppliers including Thompson Specialist Holiday Group, OTC, BA Travelshops, First Choice, Airtours, Urban Web (including Check Out Holidays and 1 Call Holidays) and Welcome Abroad."
