Airline Overview

AirTran Airways was established in 1993 and provides low-fare air travel to business and leisure travellers throughout the Eastern United States and Midwest, including more than 130 daily departures from Atlanta. New services to Indianapolis, Charlotte, and Richmond were launched recently. Its main base is Orlando International Airport, with a principal hub at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. It also operates smaller "focus city" operations at Philadelphia International Airport, Baltimore-Washington International Airport, and Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.

US telephone numbers available only.Reservations: 800-AIR-TRAN (800-247-8726) operates seven days a week, 24 hours a day.

Check-in

Passengers may check-in online within 24 hours of their departure time, and up to 90 minutes prior to their scheduled departure time at the airport.

Baggage

Hand Luggage: All customers are restricted to one item of hand luggage plus one personal item, such as a handbag, umbrella or laptop. No carry-on item may exceed linear dimensions of 140 cm (55in) (height + length + width).

Checked: Two items, with size limitations. The maximum weight is 32kg (70lb) and the maximum size is 157cm linear (62in) for the first bag and 140cm (55in) for the second bag.

Excess: Excess baggage will be charged at the rate of $65 (£34) for each piece checked thereafter.

Passenger Change Details

Customers may change their flight itineraries for a fee of $75 (£46) plus any applicable increase in airfare. Customers not sure of which flight they may want also have the option of placing unused airfare in a credit file for one year from the date of the original itinerary booking, for a fee of $50 (£26).

Child Fares

Infants up to the age of two fly for free if carried on an adult's lap.

Pets

Small, domesticated dogs, cats, and birds that will fit in an approved kennel under the seat can travel. Airfare for a pet is $65 (£34) one-way.

Carrying Musical Instruments

Musical instruments under 140cm (55in) total area and weighing less than 18kg (40lb) can be taken on board as carry-on items. Large instruments can be carried in a seat with the purchase of a separate ticket or as checked baggage.

In-flight Service

Full meals are not served on flights; however, complimentary coffee, juices, Coca-Cola products, and snacks are available on all flights. Cocktails, beer, and wine can be purchased.
