Japan Airlines, headquartered in Tokyo, is the national carrier for Japan and one of the largest airline operators in Asia. Known as JAL, the airline flies throughout Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, and North and South America.

Online check-in is available to passengers holding an e-ticket or ATB ticket (magnetic boarding pass) but not to other groups of passengers such as those travelling with infants, on group tickets or on tickets purchased as part of a package. Self-check in kiosks, known as I-SCM (International Self Check-in Machines) are available at a number of airports: Narita, Haneda, Kansai, Nagoya, London Heathrow, Gimpo, Shanghai and Hotel Nikko Narita. The kiosks can be used by passengers with hand luggage only or by passengers checking luggage. Otherwise, check-in at the airport desk. Closing times vary by destination and departure airport.

Carry-on: one bag with maximum total dimensions of 115 linear cm (length + width + height), with a maximum weight of 10kg.
Checked: maximum weight limit is 20kg.
Excess: charges apply and vary according to the cost of the ticket for the flight being undertaken.
Usually available when you make your reservation, up until two days before flight departure. Otherwise, seats are allocated at check-in.
Names cannot be changed. To cancel or change a reservation, call a JAL office or travel agent before departure. There may be an additional fee for changing a reservation.
The airline's frequent flyer programme is called JAL Mileage Bank.
