There are different rules for different classes and check-in times vary according to your departure airport. In general, economy class passengers should check in between 90 and 120 minutes before their flight is scheduled to depart.
Online check-in is available from as early as 23 hours before departure and certain customers such as Lufthansa Frequent Travellers may check in via SMS. Lufthansa also has its own range of Smartphone applications which may be used to book flights and check in amongst other things. AirRail check-in is also available at German airports.
Hand luggage: one piece is allowed, with maximum dimensions of 55 x 40 x 20 cm, not weighing more than 8kg.
Checked: one bag weighing up to 23kg. Business-Class flyers have a checked-baggage allowance of two bags weighing up to 32kg and First-Class travellers may check-in three bags up to 32kg. Children under two years have a free baggage allowance of 10kg.
Excess: If Economy-Class travellers wish to bring a second piece of luggage, the fee is €50 (about £44) on European routes. On international routes, the fee will be €150 euros (£132 approximately) per flight.

Children pay 75 per cent of the adult fare. Infants under two not occupying a seat of their own pay 10 per cent of the adult fare.
There is no discount for older travellers.
Lufthansa transports pets with prior reservation and for a nominal fee. A limited number of animals are permitted on each flight, and only cats and dogs are allowed to travel in the cabin. The maximum size of the carrier is 55 x 40 x 20cm and the weight of animal and container must not exceed 8kg. All other animals are required to be transported in the climate-controlled hold of the plane, even if you are on the same flight as your pet.
Standard baggage allowances apply. A separate seat can be booked for large instruments.
Lufthansa takes prides in its on-board catering. First class passengers enjoy quality menus and fine wines as part of the airline's “Star Chefs” and “Vinothek Discoveries” service concepts, while Business Class passengers will recieve the food and drink from the “Discover Flavour” menu. All passengers can choose from the airline's 19 special menus.
The frequent flyer programme is called Miles and More.
