Airline Overview

Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS) is the national airline for Denmark, Norway and Sweden. The classy airline is based in Stockholm, Sweden. There are three hubs: Copenhagen Airport, Stockholm-Arlanda Airport, and Oslo Airport, Gardermoen. It is a highly rated airline, picking up numerous industry awards each year.

Baggage

Hand luggage: For Economy Class passengers one piece, weighing up to 8km. The maximum size is 23x40x55cm. Business Class and Economy Extra passengers are allowed two pieces on flights to/from the US and Asia.

Checked: Economy and Economy Extra (European flights) passengers - 20kg (44lbs). Business and Economy Extra (Intercontinental flights) - 30kg (66lb). Infants are allowed 10kg (22lbs) of luggage plus a collapsible buggy. EuroBonus Gold and Star Alliance Gold members are allowed an extra 20kg and EuroBonus Silver members an extra 10kg of luggage.

Excess: Between £4 and £31 per kg (€5-€40 ) depending on the zone, ie, domestic flights, within Europe, between Europe and the Middle East or between Europe and South America, Africa and Asia.

Passenger Change Details

Possible, depending on the fare class of the ticket held. Only a SAS Reservations office or travel agent can change online bookings. Additional fees may apply.

Child Fares

Infants generally fly for 10 per cent of the adult fare. Children (2-12) fly for between 30-50 per cent of the adult fare. Children older than five years can travel unaccompanied. There is a fee for this. The airline recommends calling SAS telephone sales for reservations for children.

Pets

Cats and dogs are allowed in the cabin on some routes (not on flights to or from the UK and Ireland), with advance notice. Animals other than cats and dogs must travel as cargo. The charge for bringing a pet varies by zone. These are €20 (in cabin) or €30 (checked-in as baggage) on domestic Scandinavian flights; €50 (in cabin) or €60 (checked-in as baggage) on European flights; €70 (in cabin) or €80 (checked-in as baggage) on flights between Europe and the Middle East; and €100 (in cabin) or €150 (checked-in as baggage) on flights between Europe and Asia.

Carrying Musical Instruments

Special fees and conditions apply for musical instruments. The only musical instrument allowed in the passenger cabin on SAS flights is a cello, provided that an extra seat for the cello has been booked and paid for at time of reservation. Contact SAS or a travel agent for these reservations. Double-basses/contrabasses will not be carried on SAS Boeing 737-600 aircraft, due to limited space in the cargo holds of this aircraft.

In-flight Service

A wide range of snacks and hot beverages are available for purchase from CloudShop, SAS's "deli in the sky". Economy Extra and Business flyers on European flights receive complimentary meals. On intercontinental flights a cocktail, snacks and a three-course meal is served in Economy Class. Additional alcoholic drinks can be purchased. In Economy Extra flyers receive a cocktail and snacks, a three-course meal and fruit and snacks between meals. Business-Class flyers are served a drink before departure, "superior meal services" and can also enjoy a buffet bar.
