Check-in desks for flights to Europe close 30 minutes before departure, with the exception of desks in Palma and Copenhagen, which close 50 minutes before departure. Desks for long haul flights close 40 minutes before the flight departs. Long haul passengers flying from Manchester can also check-in the night before travel, between 7pm and 10pm at the bmi check-in desk 59 in terminal one. You must check-in all bags, and all passengers travelling need to be present. However, you still need to arrive at the airport the next day two hours before your flight departs. Self check-in is also available at many of the airports.

Hand luggage: maximum limit for economy European flights is 10kg to and from Heathrow and 7kg for all regional airports. For mid- and long-haul flights the limit is 6kg.
Checked: for all short-haul flights and long-haul flights departing from Heathrow there is an unlimited number of bags permitted, but with a total maximum weight of 20kg. Manchester long-haul flights to the USA and Caribbean have a maximum of two pieces of luggage, with a combined weight no more than 64kg.
Excess: charges on short-haul flights are £5 per kg. Long-haul rates vary by route, anything between £50 per piece to £19 per kg. Check before you travel if you think you have too much luggage.

The date and time of the flight can be changed for £30 per person per change, as well as any upgrade fares. Names cannot be changed. However, tickets can be cancelled for a full refund minus a £25 administrative fee. You will not have to pay the administration fee if you cancel within 24 hours of making the booking by calling the cancellation centre. Child fares: available on some international routes for children between the age of two and twelve at 67 per cent of the adult fare. More information can be requested by calling the bmi service centre. Infants under the age of two can travel on an adult's lap for ten percent of the adult fare.

Passengers can take dogs, cats or ferrets on UK domestic flights or from the UK on an international service. An extra charge will be assessed for pet transport. Pets are not permitted on bmi transatlantic flights.Pets must be transported in IATA-approved containers large enough for the pet to turn about while standing, to stand and sit erect, and to lie in a natural position.
