Austin-Bergstrom is the first US conversion of an Air Force Base to commercial airport since the end of the Cold War. About nine million passengers used the airport in 2008. There is nonstop service to more than 40 destinations around the US, and to Canada and Mexico. The Barbara Jordan Terminal boasts nine major works of original art.

There is space for over 10,000 cars at the airport: in a covered short-term car park next to the Barbara Jordan Passenger Terminal, and in surface parking (car park A) and long-term car parks (car parks B-G) (tel: (512) 530 3300). Shuttle buses operate to/from the terminal 24 hours a day to all car parks.

Eating and drinking: There are numerous restaurants, snack bars, delis, ice-cream parlours and bars.
Shopping: The Market Place, inside the terminal building, houses most of the shops and restaurants.

Other facilities: The terminal offers shoeshine booths plus a live music stage featuring local performers.

Facilities include elevators, disabled toilets, accessible ticket counters and tables, lowered airport directories and Braille signage. Disabled parking spaces are located either close to lifts or to shuttle bus stops; shuttle buses are suitable for wheelchairs. Wheelchair service is available to the aircrafts; passengers should inform their airline of any special assistance, prior to travel. TTD phones are available. Airport staff are trained in American sign language.
