Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, formerly Chiang Kai Shek International, in Taoyuan County, is about an hour’s drive from Taipei. The modern airport has two terminals: Terminal 1, opened in 1979, handles 12 million passengers annually and Terminal 2, opened in 2000, welcomes 17 million passengers a year. China Airlines and Eva Air have hubs there.

Getting into Town

Road: Taxi: Taxis are available from the Arrivals hall 24 hours a day to Taipei and Taichung. Bus: Six companies, including the Kou Kuang Motor Transport Co Ltd and Taiwania Air Bus; serve city centre destinations (journey time: 40 minutes), as well as Taipei Rail Station. There are also buses to Taoyuan and Chungli run by the Taoyuan Bus Corporation, and to Taichung (journey time: 2 hours), as well as other areas.

Rail: A city MRT and high-speed train system are planned for the near future.

Car Parking

Car parks are located on the ground level of the east and west sides of the Terminal 1 building, and on the ground and underground levels of the east and west sides of the Terminal 2 building.

Information Desks

There are information desks in each terminal (tel: +886 (0)3 398 2143 for Terminal 1 or +886 (0)398 3274 for Terminal 2). A tourist services counter is situated in the passenger reception area of Terminal 1 Arrivals (tel: +886 (0)3 398 2194).

Airport Facilities

Money and communications: Two banks have outlets throughout the airport providing various facilities, including ATMs and bureaux de change. An internet room, mobile telephone services, a post office and telephones are located in Terminal 1 Departures. Wireless internet is also available at various points in the airport.

Eating and drinking: Chinese and Western restaurants, fast-food outlets and bars are located around the airport.

Shopping: There are plenty of shops at the airport, including duty-free.

Luggage: Lost property offices are located in the basements of Terminal 1 Departures and Terminal 2 Arrivals. Left-luggage services are available on the first floor (Departures) of Terminal 1 and in the Terminal 2 Arrivals hall.

Other facilities: These include a medical centre, a nursery and children’s playroom, a barber’s, first aid station, beauty salon and a transit hotel.

Airport Hotels

The CKS Airport Hotel (tel: +886 (0)3 383 3666) is located 1 mile (2km) from the terminal and is served by a free shuttle bus. There is a transit hotel in Terminal 2 for passengers waiting to transfer to another flight. In the Arrivals lobby of both terminals, there are hotel reservation counters and hotel representatives. There are no other hotels located in the immediate environs; the closest hotels are 20 miles (32km) from the airport and include the Hotel Royal Taipei, Imperial InterContinental, Grand Hotel Taipei, Regent Grand Formosa, Riviera Hotel and The Ritz Landis Hotel.

Airport Disabled Facilities

Disabled travellers may park free of charge for the first day of their stay in the airport car park. Passengers requiring wheelchairs and special assistance should inform their airline prior to travel.

Airport Conference and Business Facilities

On the fourth floor of Terminal 2 Departures, the More International Business Centre and Premium Lounge (tel: +886 (0)3 393 1111) offers conference rooms for hire. Further conference and communications facilities are provided at the CKS Airport Hotel, 1 mile (2km) away, with free shuttle transfer (tel: +886 (0)3 383 3666). Meeting and seminar rooms for up to 350 delegates, IDD lines in each guest room and an Internet centre are available.

Directions

Fom Taipei, take the Sun Yat-sen freeway southwest towards Taipei and Taichung/ChungLi, and turn off at the airport interchange, just after the Nankan Nokan interchange.
