Galeao International Airport is the main airport in Rio de Janeiro. It is the largest entrance point for tourists visiting Brazil – more than 40 per cent of all foreigners arrive at the airport. There are two terminals, which can handle up to 15 million passengers a year. The airport links Brazil to 18 countries.

Road: Bus and taxi are the most hassle-free ways to travel into Rio. Taxi: Taxis are available, although visitors are advised to ignore the RDE taxi desk and go to the Rio de Janeiro State Tourism Authority desk instead and buy prepaid taxi vouchers. Otherwise, passengers should ensure that their taxi’s meter is cleared of the last fare. Bus: There is an airport shuttle bus every hour which stops at major hotels and beaches. Empresa Real have air-conditioned frescao buses that drive into the city as well as along the seafront stopping off at the hotels (journey time: 45 minutes). Public buses run to the city centre.
Multi-storey and covered car parks are available at the airport.
Infraero information counters can be found on the second floor of the blue sector in Terminal 1 and on the Departures floor in Terminal 2. Computerised information screens are available in Terminal 2.
Money and communications: Terminal 1 has a range of banks, bureau de change facilities and a post office.Eating and drinking: There are restaurants in Terminal 1 and a wide variety of restaurants and cafés in the central commercial area in Terminal 2.Shopping: There are shops in Terminal 1 and in the central commercial area in Terminal 2.Other facilities: There is a pharmacy and a small 24-hour hospital in Terminal 1.
Airport hotels include the Luxor Hotel (tel: +55 (0)21 2468 8998 or toll free on 0800 165 322) on level 3 of the blue sector in Terminal 1 and the Hotel Pousada (tel: +55 (0)21 3398 3848/52/54) on level 1 in the red sector of Terminal 1. There is a 24-hour hotel reservation desk in Terminal 1 on level 3.
Lifts, automatic doors, adapted telephones and toilets are provided for disabled people. Disabled car parking spaces are also available.
Conference and business facilities are available at the Luxor Hotel (tel: +55 (0)21 2468 8998) which is located at the airport.
