Tocumen International Airport, less than 12 miles (20km) from Panama City, is Panama’s largest airport. It is the home base of Copa Airlines, the country’s national airline and it hosts flights to and from the Americas and Caribbean. In 2008, about four million flyers passed through the airport.

Getting into Town

Road: Regulated taxis are available with pre-purchase of your fare – up to two people US$25.00, three or more US$10.00 per person. Some hotels offer shuttle service. There is no readily available public bus to or from the airport.

Car Parking

There is ample open-air parking in front of the main terminal on the arrivals level.

Information Desks

The Panamanian Tourism Institute has a help desk inside the baggage claim area. In the Arrivals area, the Hotel Caesar Park also has an information counter.

Airport Facilities

Money and communications: There is an ATM on the departure level, along with a branch of the National Bank of Panama. Cable & Wireless operates a telephone/fax facility on the same level. Public telephones are available in various locations.

Eating and drinking: A restaurant and coffee shop are located on the upper level overlooking the departure area. On the arrivals level, there are a few snack outlets and there is a restaurant inside the departure area.

Shopping: There are a variety of shops located in the International Departure area with duty-free shopping available both on departure and arrival.

Luggage: Porters are available. Baggage carts cannot be taken out of the customs area.

Airport Hotels

The Riande Airport Hotel (tel: +507 290 3333; website: www.hotelesriande.com) is located next to the airport. Major hotels readily accessible using the South Corridor include the Hotel Caesar Park (tel: +507 270 0477), 15 minutes from the airport in San Francisco.

Airport Disabled Facilities

The airport is fully accessible to disabled passengers.

Airport Conference and Business Facilities

There are no business facilities at the airport, but there is a VIP lounge, Tocumen Royal Saloon (tel: +507 238 2600), available for arriving and departing visitors.
