Kuwait International Airport handles more than 100 flights a day in the busy summer season. Its current capacity is for six million passengers a year and it is undergoing an expansion scheme. The first phase (completed in 2002) was to the passenger terminal. The second phase (2003) included the building of more check-in desks, improved baggage-handling and the introduction of a children's play area. The next phase is for a second passenger terminal. The airport is a hub for Kuwait Airways.

Road: Taxi: Taxis are available; the taxi desk is located in Arrivals on the ground floor. Limousine: A limousine service is also available from Arrivals. Bus: Buses (journey time: 30 minutes) depart from outside Arrivals to take passengers to Kuwait city.

There is short- and long-term parking available, with a new multi-storey car park located immediately adjacent to the Commercial Centre and a car park located on street level, next to the Arrivals hall. Passengers can reach the Departures hall using escalators, travelators and lifts from the ground floor to the first floor level of the terminal building. A long-term car park is situated a short distance away from the terminal building. Valet parking is also available.

Money and communications: There are two banks, a fax and telephone office and two mobile telephone hire outlets.
Eating and drinking: There are restaurants and cafés at the airport and in the Commercial Centre next to the Arrivals hall.
Shopping: There are two duty-free shops at the airport, as well as a number of shops in the Commercial Centre.
Luggage: An online identification of lost property items is accessible via the airport’s website.
Other facilities: There is a nursery, several prayer areas and a medical centre. A Kid’s Zone is situated in the Departures hall.

The Safir Airport Hotel (tel: +965 472 5000) is located within the airport restricted zone, next to the east part of the runway; it can be reached by courtesy bus, but can only be used by transit passengers; under Kuwaiti air transport law, passengers facing a wait of more than eight hours for a connecting flight are entitled to free rooms at the hotel, courtesy of the airline. The Crowne Plaza Kuwait City (tel: +965 474 2000) is a short ride from the airport. Hotels offering a shuttle service to the airport are the Golden Tulip Messilah, Sheraton Kuwait Hotel and the Safir Al Bastaki Suites.

Lifts take passengers from the ground floor to the first floor. Wheelchairs are available on request; passengers requiring special assistance should inform their airline prior to travel. Reserved car parking is available for disabled passengers.
