Located just 5km (3 miles) from the central business district of the second-largest city in Tennessee, Memphis International Airport is a regional hub serving the greater Memphis area. The airport is within easy distance of both Arkansas and Mississippi, making it a convenient alternative to several airports in the American South.

Flights to Memphis International Airport come mostly from other US cities, including Atlanta, Dallas, Chicago, Houston, Minneapolis, New York, Phoenix, Philadelphia, Denver, Boston, Miami, Charlotte and many other cities in the South. There are a few international flights to Cancun and Amsterdam with Delta.

The airport is small, but designed for efficiency. Travellers looking for designer shops and high-tech amenities may be left disappointed, but Memphis International Airport is a practical gateway to Tennessee, and just a short drive from popular Memphis attractions such as Graceland and Beale Street.

Getting into Town

Train: There is no train service to the airport.

Bus: There are buses available to a number of destinations, including downtown Memphis. Bus Nos. 02 and 20 take about an hour to get into town. A normal adult fare is $1.50.

Taxi: Taxis are available from outside the Terminal B baggage claim area. There is a taxi coordinator present during the day to help passengers get to where they’re going. Taxis charge by the meter. A basic fare to downtown Memphis is about $30.

Car Parking

Short-term parking is available in the multi-level car park across from the terminals; it’s free for 30 minutes, then charged at $2 for up to an hour, and $1 per hour up to seven hours, with $1 per additional hour after that up to $21 per day. Long-term parking is also opposite the terminals, and costs $2 for the first hour, and $1 per half hour up to $11 per day. It also offers 30 minutes’ free parking, however. Economy parking is a little further away, but serviced by a regular free shuttle; the first 30 minutes are free, and there’s a flat fee of $8 per day after that.

Information Desks

Customer service agents are stationed around the airport, and can be identified by their white shirts, khaki pants, and blue vest with a “Blue Suede Service” logo.

Airport Facilities

Money and communications: There are ATMs, currency exchange facilities, mail boxes and public phones available for use.

Luggage: There are baggage carts available for rental. Lost-luggage queries are handled by individual airlines.

Conference and business: The International Business Service Center in Ticket Lobby B has a variety of business services and travel exchange. There is also a conference room in the work centre between Terminals A and B.

Other facilities: The airport has a barber shop, medical station, shoeshine, art and music museums, handicapped facilities, baby-changing stations, a lost and found and animal-relief areas.

Wi-Fi: There is Wi-Fi available in the airport through Boingo for $6.95 per day.

Car Rentals

Rental cars are available from a number of operators including Alamo, Budget, Hertz and Thrifty. All agencies are located off the airport, but each provides a courtesy shuttle. There are courtesy phones by the exit of each baggage-claim area you can use to contact the rental agencies.
