At only 9km (almost 6 miles) from the city centre, Newcastle International Airport is easily accessible by train, bus or taxi. It's currently one of the 15 busiest airports in the UK, with several daily domestic flights to Newcastle Airport arriving from London, Belfast, Southampton and Bristol.
Newcastle itself is a compact, friendly city known its nightlife, music and sport. The city has seen greater domestic and international tourism over the past few years since it regenerated. It is now considered to be a trendy cultural destination, gateway to areas of outstanding natural beauty such as the Pennines and the Northumberland coastline.
The airport has several shops, restaurants and kids’ play areas, and is well equipped.

Train: The Newcastle Airport Metro station is next to the passenger terminal - just turn left as you exit Arrivals. It'll take 20–25 minutes to get into the city centre and the trains run regularly. Tickets cost £3-£4 depending on whether you want a single, return or unlimited day ticket.
Bus: At less than £2 to the city centre, the bus is the most cost-effective option. Buses leave every 20 minutes during the day.
Taxi: Airport Taxis is the official taxi service for Newcastle Airport. A fare to the city costs in the region of £20-£25.
Money and communications: Bank, ATMs and Travelex currency exchange in the arrivals hall on the ground floor.
Luggage: There are two pre check-in weighing machines that you can use to double-check the weight of your luggage. Travel bags are available from vending machines (£10) if you need to repack anything. There’s also a 24-hour left-luggage facility, a lost-property office, and a free porter service.
Conference and business: There's a British Airways Lounge for First-Class and Business-Class passengers with a bar, business centre, library and TV. The Cheviot Lounge is open to all passengers, although you'll need to pay to get in – about £16 per adult. Certain credit cards, such as Diners Club, will get you complimentary access. It has free Wi-Fi, a TV, complimentary snacks and drinks, faxes and telephones. The Novotel Newcastle Airport and Britannia Newcastle Airport Hotel have conference facilities.
Other facilities: There are baby-changing facilities before and after security and an arcade game room for older kids. There's also a 24-hour prayer room on Level 2 of the main terminal building.
Wi-Fi: Free Wi-Fi in the business lounges. There are also Internet kiosks throughout the terminal building (pay for by credit card).
