The Port of Portland owns and operates Portland International Airport and three other airports in Oregon. Portland International Airport served 14 million passengers in 2008, and provides service with 14 carriers. During the busiest travel seasons, there are more than 520 flights per day. Since 2006 it has been voted - by business travellers - the best US airport. The poll was conducted by Condé Nast Traveller and praised PDX for its environmental programmes, light rail access, shops and amenities.

Getting into Town

Rail: TriMet MAX light rail services run from the airport to downtown Portland and Beaverton on the red line. There are stops along the way, near various hotels. Tickets are available from machines in the Arrivals lobby and on the station platform, which is located on Airport Way, close to the terminal building.

Road: Taxi: Taxis are readily available, departing from the Ground Transportation Center on the west side of the parking garage, in front of Arrivals. Limousine: Executive cars operate from the airport to various areas around Portland; reservations can be made at the information booth on the ground transportation roadway. Bus: Many shuttles and coaches operate from the airport to various areas around Portland.

Car Parking

There is a parking garage with direct access to the terminal. Also available are economy and long-term car parks with free shuttle buses running to/from the terminal. Motorcycles are not permitted in any of the car parks, however, parking for motorcycles is free on the Arrivals level, under the upper roadway.

Information Desks

Two staffed information desks operate in baggage reclaim and other information points are located around the terminal. Uniformed volunteer provide passenger assistance at peak periods. Computerised kiosks and brochures provide information in Chinese, English, German, Japanese, Korean and Spanish. Foreign-language assistance is available through AT&T at the information desks. Airport Facilities

Money and communications: ATMs, postal services and a bureau de change are available.

Eating and drinking: Restaurants, cafés and bars are available throughout the airport.

Shopping: There are numerous shops, including duty-free.

Luggage: A lost property service is available in Arrivals (tel: +1 503 460 4272).

Other facilities: These include a barber, massage, shoeshine, and a children’s play area.

Hotels at the airport include the Embassy Suites (tel: +1 503 460 3000), Sheraton Portland Airport Hotel (tel: +1 503 281 2500), Hampton Inn (tel: +1 503 288 2423), Courtyard by Marriott (tel: +1 503 252 3200), Shilo Inn (tel: +1 503 252 7500), Holiday Inn Portland Airport (tel: +1 503 256 5000) and Hilton Garden Inn (tel: +1 503 255 8600). Many hotels provide courtesy shuttles to/from the airport.

Airport Disabled Facilities

Facilities for disabled passengers include toilets, TTY telephones and a guide dog relief area. Disabled car parking spaces are available in the parking garage, next to the elevators, as well as near the bus shelters in the economy and long-term car parks; shuttles are wheelchair-accessible. Passengers requiring wheelchairs and special assistance should inform their airline prior to travel.

Airport Conference and Business Facilities

The PDX Conference Centre (tel: +1 503 460 4050) offers meeting rooms and business facilities, including six executive meeting rooms which can accommodate up to 72 people, audiovisual equipment, photocopying, fax facilities, workstations with computers, notary service, private telephone rooms, typewriters and a secretarial service. Communication services, including fax, PC workstations and postal facilities, are also available at service centres on Concourses C and D.
