The airport is located 12km (7 miles ) north of Pendik on the Asian side and 45km (28 miles) east of the European centre of Istanbul.

Sabiha Gokcen International, Istanbul's second airport, is situated on the Asian side of the city. It opened in 2001 and is named after Sabiha Gokcen, the world's first female combat pilot. It is considered a sub-terminal of Ataturk Airport. Most traffic to the airport is domestic or charter flights. Plans to upgrade the international terminal to accommodate ten million passengers per year are under way.

Water: The IDO Sea Bus Port is situated 5 miles (8km) away; this provides connections to the different districts of Istanbul, as well as to neighbouring towns and cities.
Rail: The nearest railway connection is 4 miles(6km) away; this provides connections to the different districts of Istanbul, as well as to neighbouring towns and cities.
Road: Taxi: Taxis are available 24 hours a day to destinations in and around Istanbul. Bus: There is a regular shuttle bus service between the airport and the city centre (journey time: 30-45 minutes); the service also connects Sabiha Gokcen International Airport and Ataturk International Airport (journey time: 60-70 minutes).
Car parks for both short- and long-term parking are located in front of the terminals. Short-term parking is also available next to the main terminal building.
There are two information desks in all the International Terminal and one in the Domestic Terminal. Staff can provide information on facilities and services available at the airport and on hotels and tourist attractions in Istanbul; they can also assist disabled passengers and those travelling with young children.
Money and communications: There are ATMs located in both terminals. A bank is located in the Arrivals area in the International Terminal; and in the Arrivals area, there is a post office. Public telephones are available in both terminals.
Eating and drinking: There are restaurants, bars and cafés in the Departures and mezzanine areas.
Shopping: There are duty-free shops available in the sectioned halls in the International Terminal. There is also a mini market.
Luggage: Trolleys are available free of charge.
Other facilities: There is a baby-care room in the Departures lounge on the International Terminal.
The three-star Hotel Elite (tel: +90 (0)216 388 8787) is 9 miles (15km) away from the airport. The historic five-star Ottoman hotels, Ciragan Palace (tel: +90 (0)212 258 3377), one-time residence of the Ottoman Sultans on the European shores of the Bosphorus, and Swissotel - The Bosphorus (tel: +90 (0)212 326 1100) are both located 25 miles (40km) away. The five-star Suadiye Princess Hotel (tel: +90 (0)216 386 3119) is located on the E-6 express highway.
All facilities in the Arrivals hall are located on one level, meaning that disabled passengers can move easily around the Arrivals area. Disabled toilets are available in both terminals and there are lifts to the restaurants on the mezzanine level of the International Terminal. Passengers requiring assistance with boarding aircraft are advised to contact their airline in advance. Wheelchairs are available at the Domestic Terminal, free of charge; passengers should make advance arrangements with their airline. Disabled parking is available free of charge.
A business centre is available in the CIP Lounge, which is located in Departures in the International Terminal. Passengers wishing to use the business service have access to two lounges, computers, telephones, fax machines and internet services.
