The busiest airport in Austria, Vienna International is a hub for Austrian Airlines. It has been the country’s primary airport since 1954, when it replaced the airport at Aspern. Locally known as Schwechat, the airport has two runways and three terminals. A new terminal, called Skylink, is being built to help handle more passengers and the Airbus A380.

Rail: The City Airport Train (tel: +43 (0)1 25250; website: www.cityairporttrain.at) runs to the City Air Terminal at Wien Mitte. The S-Bahn (overground train) connects the airport to Wien Mitte and Wien Nord railway stations (journey time: 25 minutes); it provides connections to the Vienna U-Bahn (underground rail) system.
Road: Taxi: Taxis to the city leave from outside the Arrivals hall. A chauffeur and limousine service is offered by Radio Car Vienna (tel: +43 (0)1 7007 33340). Bus: Buses go to Wien Mitte, Südbahnhof and Westbahnhof railway stations and to Wien Schwedenplatz and the Vienna International Centre. Coach: Services are available to Bratislava (Slovak Republic) and Budapest (Hungary). An airport transfer service is also available (tel: +43 (0)1 7007 35910).
There are several car parks at the airport. K1, K2 and K3 are short-term car parks; and discount long-term parking is available in lot C. More information is available (tel: +433 (0)1 7007 22886).
Information desks can be found in the Terminal 2 and at the bus station. The airport has a 24-hour telephone information service (tel: +43 (0)1 7007 22233).
Money and communications: The airport has banks in both the Arrivals and Departures halls. ATMs and bureau de change facilities are available throughout. There are post offices in the Departures hall between Terminals 1 and 2 and the Plaza shopping area.
Eating and drinking: The airport has several cafés, snack bars, restaurants and bars.
Shopping: There are more than 70 shops, including duty-free.Luggage: Porters (tel: +43 (0)1 7007 33140/1) are available on request at a small charge. Luggage trolleys are also available. There is a 24-hour left-luggage facility in the Arrivals area; and safety deposit boxes. There is also a lost property service (tel: +43 (0)1 7007 29360).
Other facilities: There is a 24-hour medical centre and a pharmacy.
The Astron Hotel & Convention Center Vienna Airport (tel: +43 (0)1 701 510; website: www.astron-hotels.de) is located directly opposite the airport terminals and next to the Vienna Airport World Trade Center.
The Airport VIP & Business Centre (tel: +43 (0)1 7007 23300/400/406) can organise events and press conferences as well as provide room hire for up to 40 delegates. The Danube Aviator Club provides five executive lounges with workspaces, telephone, modem, fax and message services, and an adjacent meeting room. The Vienna Airport World Trade Center (tel: +43 (0)1 7007 36000) provides office hire plus excellent facilities for meetings, functions and conferences for up to 300 delegates, with secretarial and interpretation services, bank branches and a chamber of commerce also available. The Astron Hotel & Convention Center Vienna Airport (tel: +43 (0)1 701 510; website: www.astron-hotels.de) also offers conference facilities.
