Taking in Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire, the Cotswolds are accessible whether you are driving or taking flights via London, Birmingham or Bristol.

It's one of 41 Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty in England and Wales. From Bradford-upon-Avon to Banbury it covers more than 2,000 sq km. 

Renowned cities such as Bath, prominent centres such as Cheltenham and chocolate-box towns such as Stow-on-the-Wold, Moreton-in-Marsh, Castle Combe and Burford offer quintessential Englishness.

Cotswolds insider information

• Walk 72km (45 miles) of the Cotswold Way from thatched Chipping Campden to beautiful Painswick. You pass through essentially “English” countryside. A special planned route is available, which of course you could drive in a car.
• At the top of the Broadway Tower in Broadway on a clear day you can see 12 counties spread out below. Look at the small William Morris exhibition also there, and afterwards call in to the famous Lygon Arms Hotel.
• Visit picturesque Stroud which used to be an important wool centre. Many of the old mill buildings still stand but are now filled with modern industry.
