The Henry Ford
Henry Ford’s first car was built in Detroit in 1896 on a moving assembly line. Ford’s innovative technique allowed for the mass production of cars for every man. The Henry Ford museum is spread across more than 90 acres and pays tribute to the American way of life with tens of thousands of ordinary objects connected with American life and history. Much of the collection was gathered by Ford himself and includes items like Edgar Allan Poe’s writing desk, the limousine JFK was assassinated in and George Washington’s camp bed. The museum is in Dearborn, MI, not far from Detroit, just west of the Southfield Freeway and south of Michigan Avenue.
