Reasons to fly to Javea

Javea lies between Denia and Altea on the Costa Blanca in Spain. It might not be one of Spain's biggest tourist centres, but it offers high-quality holidays (mostly self-catering apartments and villas) and is blessed with more hours of sunshine per year than anywhere else in Spain.

Holidaymakers seeking cheap flights to Javea have a choice of airports to fly into - Valencia or Alicante.

One of the most distinctive features of Javea is its mountain, the Montgo, which, according to local legend, was an elephant turned to stone as it drank from the sea.

Javea is divided into three parts - the old town (Javea Pueblo); the port area (Javea Puerto); and the beach (Playa de Arenal).

Its old town boasts narrow streets with small shops, cafes and restaurants. A weekly market takes place in the Plaza de la Constitucion.

Javea insider information

  • The attractive main beach El Arunel is surrounded by rocks and coves. Low-rise accommodation means that the town still feels like a town.
  • In Spanish, the town's name is written “Xabia”.
  • This used to be a regular base for pirates and smugglers who hid their contraband among the rocky coves. Above the doors of the fortified church you will see spaces where the inhabitants could throw missiles on to their attackers.
  • Stand at the seafront and see real “old-fashioned” windmills. They are more attractive than their aerodynamically superior windfarm cousins, but some of their charm may come from the fact they are ruined.
