The small resort of Klosters typifies the best of the chic European skiing towns. The quaint Alpine appearance of the town – wooden chalets and no traffic on the streets – has long appealed to British royalty and the area has become known for hosting Prince Charles, William and Harry on numerous winter holidays.

The ski area is shared with neighbouring Davos and Klosters also has access to its own section of pistes, the Madrisa. All levels of skiers book flights to Klosters, with local slopes appealing to beginners and plenty for intermediate and experienced skiers further afield.  The resort is far from cheap, but perfect for those who value the après-ski as much as the skiing. There are plenty of upmarket restaurants and shops.

The closest airport is at Zurich, from where the transfer time is around two-and-a-half hours.

Klosters Insider Information

  • The Klosters website has an abundance of useful information for skiers, including a weather report for the next three days and live webcams of the slopes and lifts.
  • Klosters has 40 restaurants in town, but only two nightclubs, which tells you a little about its clientele. This is an upmarket resort, with a more adult vibe than neighbouring Davos. However, the small amount of clubs does mean you’re likely to find the Princes when they’re in town.
  • Night skiing takes place every Tuesday and Friday at the Selfranga lift.
