Set at the centre of the prestigious Trois Vallees (Three Valleys) ski resort in the French Alps, Meribel remains one of the most popular ski resorts with visitors from the UK. A traditional resort, made up of chocolate-box wooden chalets and with access to some of the best skiing available in Europe, it’s not hard to see the appeal of Meribel, and one consequence of this is the prices. Cheap flights to Meribel can be hard to find, arriving at Geneva Airport, and cheap accommodation in the town even more so. But a ski holiday here is one that’s worth spending a little extra on.

The Three Valleys ski area is extensive, ranging from Courchevel to the glacier at Val Thorens and all of it is easily accessible from Meribel. Whatever the weather at whatever point in the season, it’s possible to get some slopes with good snow. The only downside can be the runs back into Meribel itself, which tend to turn to slush quickly later in the season.

But skiers book Meribel flights as much for the après-ski as for the skiing itself. This is a lively resort, with an excellent nightlife and many clubs, bars, pubs and restaurants.
