Playa Blanca sits on the southern tip of Lanzarote, the island's most southerly resort. In times past it was a small fishing village and it still retains much of its charm. Playa Blanca is also the point from where you can catch a ferry to Fuerteventura.
It is one of Lanzarote's most recently constructed resorts, but tranquil and quieter than resorts such as Costa Teguise or Puerto del Carmen. The coastline around Playa Blanca runs for 9km (6 miles), divided into three sheltered bays, perfect for swimming and sunbathing. A little further along are several undeveloped bays around the Papagayo peninsula.
The promenade follows the waterfront. Along the walk are bars, restaurants and shops. It's a perfect spot to take in sea views across the Bocaina Straits to Fuerteventura.
Playa Blanca flights touch down at Arrecife Airport, just 33km (20 miles) away.

- Playa Blanca is an attractive resort that is now very popular. You have good views of the islands of Los Lobos and Fueteventura from the central beach. Take a boat to beautiful Playa Papagayo or the ferry to Fuenteventura.
- Lanzarote is volcanic which means the scenery is treeless but very dramatic. Take a trip to the Timfaya national park, throw dry lichen into a crater and it will burn. The volcanoes are dormant, not dead.
- The lack of vegetation means that only desert animals thrive. In the national park you can take a camel ride as camels have played an important part in island life.
