Puerto del Carmen is one of the longest established and most popular resorts on Lanzarote. It is located in the south of Lanzarote, with a beautiful sweep of Blue Flag beach about 6km (4 miles) long. The surrounding waters are calm and noted for their swimming and water sports. Diving and windsurfing are also popular pursuits.
On the Avenida de las Playas (or New Town) there are more than 100 restaurants serving several types of cuisine from fast food to traditional cuisine. Bars, shops and a casino round out the tourist attractions.
In common with many other Canary Islands' resorts, Puerto del Carmen was once a small fishing village. The old harbour area is home to many restaurants serving locally caught seafood.
Ideally situated, the resort is just a ten-minute drive from Arrecife Airport at which Puerto del Carmen flights land.
