The official currency is the Qatari riyal, which breaks down into 100 dirhams. You can exchange money at the airport or at banks and exchange dealers. ATMs are on main streets, at banks or in shopping centres. Most places accept traveller’s cheques and international credit cards.

A service charge of 10 per cent is usually added by hotels and restaurants. If that’s not the case, it’s customary to add 10 per cent. Taxi drivers don't usually receive a tip.

You don’t need any vaccinations to enter Qatar. Stick to bottled water and avoid undercooked food or unwashed produce to avoid diarrhoea, especially outside resorts and hotels. Medical facilities are good but they will expect payment up front. Ensure that your travel insurance policy has adequate medical coverage.
