The Sinai Peninsula is an area that is steeped in history. The Mediterranean Sea lies to the north, the Red Sea is to the south, and it is Asia proper, rather than Africa, like the rest of Egypt.

- Take a boat trip to get the best scuba diving. From Sharm el Sheikh, the nearest dive sites go from the Straits of Tiran to the marine park of Ras Mohammed. If you are learning, this is one of the best places in the world to get qualified.
- Get an underwater camera to remind you of the variety of marine life. As well as colourful fish and coral you could see jack, snapper and barracuda.
- Visit the range of peaks known as Mount Sinai. This is where Moses is thought to have received the Ten Commandments from God before the Red Sea parted and he and his tribe escaped from the Egyptians. The site of the burning bush famous from biblical times is nearby in St Catherine’s Monastery.
