St Anton, in the Austrian Tyrol, is one of the most popular ski resorts in Europe. Host of the Alpine World Skiing Championships in 2001, St Anton offers world-class facilities and excellent skiing, combined with the best snow record of the country. This is a resort primarily for intermediate and experienced skiers, with plenty of long winding red and black runs and truly amazing off-piste. It is a sprawling resort with a very large ski area that combines St Anton, Lech and St Christoph. Skiing the length of the accessible pistes would test the stamina of even the most experienced skiers. But winter enthusiasts don’t just book flights to St Anton for the skiing. The resort is a lively one, with plenty of après-ski activities on offer. Bars, restaurants and nightclubs abound here – there are more than 60 different places to eat.

The resort is easily accessible, with St Anton flights arriving in Innsbruck or Friedrichshafen in Germany.

St Anton Insider Information

  • The 2001 World Alpine Championships were held here which tells you this is a place that challenges expert skiers. Off-piste is awesome and it can pay to get a group together and hire a guide.
  • The pistes challenge all abilities, and there is a good mogul field called the Kandahar.(factoid: the original moguls in India came from Kandahar which is why mogul fields are often called Kandahar.)
  • Go to the Ahlberg Hotel, which is right next to the Nasserein gondola, to experience a family run hotel that was here when this was just a traditional Alpine village. Even before Franz Klammer, the ski god of the 1970s, put Austrian skiing on the international map.
