Royal Djurgården
Most of Stockholm’s sightseeing can be found near the city’s centre on Djurgården, an island stuffed with museums, entertainment, restaurants and green space. The island was once a royal hunting ground, but now visitors can join in any number of fun activities ranging from browsing in art galleries to exploring Nordic wildlife at the zoo. Visit Sweden’s oldest amusement park, Gröna Lund, the Skansen open-air museum, the National Museum of Cultural History and the Junibacken fairy-tale fun centre. A fascinating sight at the Vasa Museum is the restored, fully rigged, 17th-century galleon that was raised from Stockholm’s harbor. If all the sightseeing makes you hungry, there are plenty of excellent restaurants in the area. Address: Walk 10 minutes from the city’s centre across the Djurgården bridge.
Telephone: (0)8 442 8000 (Skansen).
