The resort of Dover in Barbados is at the east end of the St Lawrence Gap along the south coast. Most tourists booking flights to Dover come to experience the Gap: a dense, tourist area with a real buzz. Most south coast buses and minibuses stop here, which is not surprising as the beaches are wonderful – white sand and blue sea - and the accommodation is good value. All kinds of water sports are available including Hobie Cat sailing, jetskiing, boogie boarding and windsurfing, and just to make sure everyone is safe, there is a lifeguard.
Although Dover is a popular resort, there are no fast-food franchises and even if it is busy, the pace of life is very relaxed. From the minute you step off a Dover flight, you immediately start to unwind. There is a real passion both for cricket and football which takes place on Dover pasture as local Bajan teams battle it out or take on visiting teams. The highlight of the year in Dover is the Congaline Carnival. This takes place during the last week of April when Dover pasture is taken over and the place becomes one big party.
