Peak Season:
Peak season generally arrives with the warm weather, running from about June through August. Though, September and October are also great months to travel for those bargain travellers seeking cheap flights to Dubrovnik as the weather is warm (about 21 C to 25 C) but not too hot, and the crowds begin to thin. July and August are also the time when Dubrovnik Summer Festival takes place. Hosted since 1949, the festival features various cultural events around the city’s parks, squares and churches.
Fans of water sports should book their flights to Dubrovnik in advance to make sure they visit during the Water Polo Wild League in July and August. This amateur water polo competition is one of the most famous events of its kind with matches played in open water and providing spectators with great entertainment.
Off Season:
Late October through April is generally the off season in Dubrovnik; temperatures are lower during this time – about 12 C to 15 C – and more cheap flight to Dubrovnik deals are available.
If you happen to take a flight to Dubrovnik during its quieter time, don’t miss the Festival of St Blaise in February. The event honours the city’s patron saint and fills the streets with processions and dances.
The warm-weather season truly begins in May when the temperatures start to reach average highs of around 21 C. June, July and August are very warm, with average highs rising to about 28 C. The weather stays pleasant until late September. November and March have average highs of about 12 C. December through February can be cool, with average highs around 8 C.
The Old Town is a maze of little streets which can be fun but somewhat tricky to navigate on foot. It’s a small area but some streets are quite steep. Buses run between the Old Town and other destinations. Cars can be hired in advance or on arrival.
Dubrovnik Airport (DBV) is about 10 miles (16 km) from the city and shuttle buses are available (about a 45-minute ride) for transport to the local bus station, which is 1.5 miles (2.5 km) from the city centre. Alternatively, visitors can take a taxi direct from the airport. Some hotels also offer airport pick-up, either free of charge or with payment of a supplement – this is often the easiest way of getting into Dubrovnik.
