The small town of Kardamena, situated on the south coast of the Greek island of Kos, is one of the most popular resorts with British tourists. With the international airport just five miles away (a ten-minute transfer), holidaymakers arrive from Kardamena flights throughout the summer season to enjoy the town's excellent beach and the lively nightlife. The sandy beach is the longest on Kos, with a clear, warm sea for swimming in and plenty of watersports. The nightlife is legendary, and the resort is more popular with holidaymakers in search of a good time than families or older tourists.
Away from the English bars and all-day breakfast, however, is a host of treasures for those who wish to scratch a little deeper under the surface. Kardamena is built on the site of the ancient city of Alasarna. Archaeological digs have unearthed a Temple of Apollo and four basilicas and the site of the city can be visited.
