Named after the former President, Lincoln is the second largest city in the state of Nebraska and is situated near the south-east border with close link to Iowa, Kansas and Missouri. Lincoln is large and diverse enough to have plenty of appeal to all visitors, from children, to shoppers, and history enthusiasts. Lincoln has topped the Gallup-Healthways list of “Happiest & Healthiest” cities in the US. Lincoln traces it’s history back to 1856, and retains much of the original architecture style. Adventurous tourists visiting Lincoln will be in close proximity to the surrounding states of Iowa, Kansas, and Missouri, and can cross the state borders after a short trip. As one of the art and entertainment beacons of the midwest, there are plenty of historical sites and cultural locations around Lincoln, including modern attractions, restaurants, and shopping streets. Visitors with an appetite for history and culture will no doubt enjoy many of the landmarks around Lincoln, including the iconic Nebraska State Capitol with its mosaic ceilings and floors. For those with a love of the outdoors, the Pioneer Park and Nature Center is ideal for hiking trails and there a many wild animals roaming free. There are even niche museums available in Lincoln, such as the International Quilt Study Center and Museum, full of art and quilts from different historical periods and across many cultures. Many outdoor activities are on offer, including the Sunken Gardens, and many baseball and football parks such as Haymarket Park, Memorial Stadium, and Pinnacle Bank Arena.
There are both bus and rail services connecting several locations throughout Lincoln. The bus operates dozens of stops in Lincoln, and also connects to the nearby city of Omaha. An intercity train service connects to many locations throughout the US, including Denver, Chicago and Emeryville. Interstate 80 also provides good links to the surround area.
International arrivals will land at Eppley Airfield and visitors can reach Lincoln via Interstate 80. Car rentals and airport shuttles will take visitors directly into the city, although both come at a fixed price. The car rental prices may be bartered lower, as there are several competing rental companies with kiosks at the airport.
