Set on the banks of the iconic Mutha river, Pune is the second largest city in Maharashtra, so has a wide variety of attractions for the traveller. You could easily fill up your visit by taking in the museums of this region of India alone. For a one of a kind experience, for instance, why not take a look at the Darshan Museum? This Museum is filled with fascinating facts, which are displayed in an exciting and unconventional way: through 3D holographic images, human actors, and the like. A fun and family friendly attraction, it will leave you with some wonderful memories. Pune is also home to some absolutely stunning, and very unique, religious sites. Bhuleshwar Temple is well worth a visit, for example, as is the spacious Balaji Temple. Visit the Western Ghats to enjoy some absolutely gorgeous natural beauty, from rich vegetation to beautiful trails through the mountains. The Western Ghats are a recognised World Heritage Site, and the countryside around Pune in general is great for walking, trekking, or leisurely scenic drives with the family.
There are several specialised tour buses in the city which will take you to see all of the main sights, usually for a reasonable price. Take the city bus for convenience: though often crowded, these buses cover an extensive part of the city and so are ideal for getting a comprehensive view of the various sights. For a traditional experience, why not try an auto rickshaw? These three wheeled vehicles are a very common sight on the city streets, and an easy way to get around.
