If there’s one art form that’s most closely associated with Barcelona, it’s mosaic. It’s Antoni Gaudí’s (and Josep Maria Jujol’s) town really – and Joan Miro’s too (the pavement mosaic on the Pla de l’Os is pictured below).

Fairytale-esque Parc Guell is a short hop away by bus for visitors (tourist bus or Nos. 24, 31, 32, 74, 92 or Bus del barri 112). It’s an Alice-in-Wonderland world – 30 acres of bubbly architecture, viaducts, brightly coloured mosaics, wrought iron and sun-drenched stained-glass windows, all guarded by the lizard that stands by the grand staircase. From the serpentine bench there are views across Barcelona and the Mediterranean Sea.

We’re not the only ones who love Barcelona’s mosaics. Apple, before opening its new store on Passeig de Gràcia, created a Trencadís mosaic with the familiar Apple logo and oodles of colourful designs that evoke app icons. Check out the elements here.
