The Airbus A380 is set to pay a flying visit to East Midlands Airport on March 26, generating huge excitement in the local area.

Described as “the pride of British and European aviation”, the A380 is a double-decker four-engined aircraft. Aviation enthusiasts inevitably turn out in force when the airliner is in town and officials from East Midlands expect Monday to be no different.

Trevor Fitchett, spokesman for the Aeropark Volunteers Association, said: “We were all disappointed last year when the A380 visited Britain on two separate occasions and failed to appear in the skies over the East Midlands, especially with the obvious connection with Rolls Royce.

“However, this visit, will I’m sure, make up for that disappointment and we are opening the Aeropark so everyone can get a real close up view of ‘the shape of things to come’ in civil aviation.”

With a wingspan of 79 metres, the A380 is a truly spectacular aircraft and a number of leading airlines have already placed orders to boost their fleets.

Those interested in taking a closer look can head to the Aeropark on Monday from 9am.
