Just as sun-worshipping holidaymakers can’t get enough of Cancun, the airport never seems to stop growing. The close proximity of Cancun International Airport (CUN) to the most popular beach resorts in Mexico draws 12.4 million passengers through its gates each year, second only to the giant Mexico City International Airport in terms of traffic.
Flights to Cancun Airport are plentiful, and you’ll have no trouble finding them from nearly any major airport, including London, Paris, New York, Madrid, Chicago, Miami, Frankfurt, Santiago de Chile, Lisbon and Amsterdam.
Because of the massive popularity of the beach resorts in Cancun, the airport is almost constantly overrun with tourists, especially in the peak summer and spring break seasons. Facilities and service in the airport are geared toward this crowd, so the airport is clean and efficient with all the modern comforts of home.
There are free shuttles between terminals. International flights land at Terminals 2 and 3, so if you’re connecting to another airport in Mexico you will need to transfer to the Domestic Terminal.
Train: There are no train services from Cancun Airport.
Bus: There is a public bus operated by ADO running between the airport and the downtown bus terminal every 15 minutes to an hour. The trip takes about 20 minutes and costs MXN 40. There is also regular service to Playa del Carmen for MXN 100.
Taxi: Regular taxis are not allowed to pick up passengers at the airport; only authorised transportation companies are allowed. Do not interact with pirate taxi operators at the airport or tell them where you are going, as many are involved in time-share scams.
There is a parking lot located next to the entrance to the terminal. Parking costs MXN 24 per hour up to six hours, when the daily rate of MXN 150 applies.
There is an information desk at the entrance to Terminal 2.
Money and communications: The terminal contains ATMs and currency exchange facilities.
Luggage: There are independent lockers in the main Departure Terminal large enough for carry-on bags. The fee is MXN 80 per day, and MXN 200 if you lose your key. There is a lost and found department in the Security Office.
Conference and business: The Business Lounges in Terminals 2 and 3 offers facilities like Wi-Fi and broadband Internet, local phones, fax, newspapers, and conference facilities.
Other facilities: There are meeting points, hotel reservations and transfers desks, tour operators, charter services, VIP lounges, beauty salon, medical services, and smoking areas in the airport.
Wi-Fi: There is Wi-Fi and broadband in the Business Lounges in the international departures areas, accessible for a fee via Prodigy Mobile service provider from 8am to 9pm daily.
