When we think of America, we think big cars, fast food and gorgeous weather. But if you’re willing to head north, there’s a whole different side to the States.

We’re talking about Alaska – the American state that is nowhere near America. Situated at the top of Canada, Alaska is closer to Russia than it is to the USA.

But it is the biggest of all the American states, and by far the most stunning. With beautiful scenery and an abundance of wildlife, a holiday to Alaska is not one you’ll forget in a hurry. So what is there to do in this unique American state?

Denali National Park

Home to the biggest mountain in North America, Mount McKinley, Denali National Park sums up what Alaska is all about.

You’ll be hard pressed to find a more rugged, beautiful place than Denali, even in Alaska. Covering more than 9,000 square miles, the park attracts over half a million tourists each year.

Anchorage

The largest city in Alaska, Anchorage is situated at the bottom of the Chugach Mountain range. Set in such a breathtaking environment, Anchorage has to do a lot to get noticed.

But this modern city is well worth a visit. Sitting on the doorstep of some of Alaska’s best natural features, Anchorage offers great skiing and world-class fishing.

Katmai National Park and Preserve

Located 290 miles southwest of Anchorage, Katmai National Park is    where you’ll find Alaska’s most famous resident – the brown bear.

The park was created in 1980, to protect the brown bear population, and also takes in some of Alaska’s biggest volcanoes.
