The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) has said it will launch a crackdown on airlines which advertise misleading ticket prices.

The move will mean the end of 1p flights as the OFT has said it will force companies to include the cost of fees, fuel surcharges and passenger taxes displayed on websites.

Speaking to the BBC website, Ray Hall, from the OFT, said such pricing was “leading consumers to make the wrong choices”.

The OFT has been working with some airlines and travel companies to ensure customers were able to get a clear indication of ticket prices, although the BBC found some websites were still displaying bargain fares that soon increased after extra charges were added.

Late last year the Trading Standards Institute called for clarity on pricing saying that a “misleading and illegal cocktail of confusion is being allowed to flourish” and urged the OFT to step in.
