We may be in the midst of a long-overdue summer heatwave (better late than never), but this doesn’t change the fact that Christmas is fast approaching.

OK, so the festive season is still months and months away, and most people won’t even be able to bear the thought of tinsel, trees and turkey, but by planning ahead you can make some significant savings.

Family holiday company Esprit has unveiled its Christmas programme of trips to visit Santa in his native Lapland, and is offering discounts to anybody who is shrewd enough to book up early. Packages can be booked at santaslapland.com.

Santa’s Lapland holidays can currently be purchased with a discount of up to £75 per adult, a grandparent saving of £30 per couple and free places for children under five years.

Three- and four-day trips to St Nick’s homeland are available between December 1 and 23, and prices start from £678 per adult and £439 per child.

This price includes return flights, transfers, bed-and-breakfast accommodation, a day of Christmas activities and a visit to see Santa himself – who’ll have a gift for any children under the age of 11.

Esprit has added a number of new features and activities to its Christmas Lapland package this year, including a revamped elf show, an ice sculpture exhibition and reindeer feeding.

Esprit’s catered Christmas Cabins have been also been improved, and are now available for families and groups of up to 12 people. These authentic log cabins add to the overall Lapland experience, and come with cabin hosts who provide breakfast and dinner each day.

“Our new Christmas Cabin accommodation was introduced last year and was a huge success, which is why we have added larger cabins for bigger family groups of up to 12,” said Ian Hope, from Santa’s Lapland.

“Guests really like the concept of catered accommodation where they can have the privacy of their own sitting and dining areas, with the comfort of a cabin host and the knowledge that their holiday price includes all meals and all drinks at mealtimes,” he added.
