Popular low-cost airline easyJet has announced plans to introduce extra flights from Belfast International Airport on routes to Edinburgh, London and Manchester.

As part of the airline’s expansion of its Edinburgh routes, the new schedule means that Monday flights will increase from three to four, while those on Tuesday and Wednesday will increase from two to three.

There will now be three daily flights to Manchester on Monday, Thursday and Friday instead of the current two.  In addition to this, the carrier will increase flights to four “London” destinations: Gatwick, Luton, Southend and Stansted.

All of the extra flights will come into effect from October 28, as part of easyJet’s revamped and updated winter schedule.

“Edinburgh and Manchester are important centres for the business community and also for leisure travellers, including people going there for our popular city breaks,” said Ali Gayward, easyJet’s commercial manager.

“We operate up to 13 flights daily from Belfast to London, significantly more than any other airline, but demand is such that the extra morning and evening flights are essential.”

Flights for all the new routes announced by easyJet are on sale now, with fares starting from £24.99 one-way, including taxes.

“We are delighted that the airline is again demonstrating a willingness to explore new horizons in support of Northern Ireland’s economic growth,” said Uel Hoey, business development director at Belfast International Airport.

The airline has also recently announced plans to launch a new partnership with children’s charity UNICEF. As part of UNICEF’s global campaign, which will be branded Change for Good, easyJet passengers will be able to do their bit for charity by donating spare change on board.

Airline crew will hand out specially designed pouches during flights, into which passengers can drop in their spare holiday cash.

Running from  July 2 for an initial three-year period, the money raised through donations will help fund the global charity’s work.
