Most parents relish a holiday with the children each summer, giving the family a chance to spend some quality time together in a far-flung location.

But the family holiday pastime could be going on for longer than some parents might like, as research has revealed that adult children are still using the travel agency of mum and dad.

While you’d think that most young adults would be keen to enjoy a boozy week in Marbella or Zante, it seems that more and more are shunning the party break in favour of a good old-fashioned family getaway.

Many of us are still feeling the effects of the recession, with high living costs and low income rises, so it’s little wonder that many people are turning to their parents for a cheap summer holiday.

The research, by insurance firm LV=, found that as many as two million parents expect to take their adult offspring on holiday with them.

The average age for a son or daughter joining their parents on holiday is a whopping 30-years-old, with even some middle-aged Brits still enjoying the annual family holiday.

“Young adults, and even some middle-aged ones, are trying to save money where they can and holidaying with the parents is becoming a growing trend,” said Selwyn Fernandes, Managing Director of LV= travel insurance.

The baby-boomer generation are more likely to have the cash available to take their grown-up kids away with them, and it seems that many of them are happy to do so.

It was found that two thirds are willing to pay full price for their offspring, while four out of ten see the holiday as a treat for their children.

More than half of parents say they know that their children wouldn’t be able to afford a holiday otherwise, and are just happy to have the family together. After all, they may be grown ups, but they’re still “babies”!
