Homeland, the hit US TV show that took the world by storm last year, is back for a second series this autumn – and we can’t wait!

Starring Claire Danes – who gives arguably the performance of her life – alongside British actor Damian Lewis, Homeland is a fast-paced thriller full of twists and turns.

The show was first broadcast on the US cable channel Showtime in the US, before making its way across The Pond to be shown on Channel 4 last February.

Homeland tells the story of a CIA officer trying to prevent a terrorist attack on US soil, who grows suspicious of a returning American prisoner of war.

Played by Damian Lewis, ex-prisoner of war Nicholas Brody struggles with the reality of returning to normal life after eight years in Al-Qaeda captivity.

The first series of the show reached its thrilling conclusion after 12 episodes, and if you haven’t seen it yet we won’t spoil it for you. Let’s just say that Series 2 is set to be a corker.

If the second outing for Homeland is half as good as the first, we’re in for a treat. The show was a hit with viewers and critics alike, and received a raft of awards including a Golden Globe for Claire Danes.

Series 2 of the show is set to kick off in the US on September 30, but don’t worry about waiting too long to see it on British screens. Channel 4 has confirmed that it will be airing Homeland this autumn, so let the countdown begin!

If you simply can’t wait until then for high drama and action-packed scenes, there are plenty of locations where you can get your Homeland fix.

Virginia, USA

The first series of the show is set predominantly in Virginia.

Virginia is home to a number of federal agencies, including the CIA and the Department of Defence, so a show about secret intelligence couldn’t really be set anywhere else.

We probably wouldn’t recommend that you turn up at the CIA with a camera, but there are plenty of other things to see in this beautiful part of the US such as Arlington National Cemetery.

One of the biggest draws is Virginia’s stunning scenery, with mountains, rivers and lakes home to some beautiful animals.

If you’re planning a trip to Virginia, check out Shenandoah National Park and Chesapeake Bay for a rugged walk though some epic surroundings.

Washington DC

Bordering Virginia is Washington DC, the capital and one of the integral locations for Homeland – if you’ve seen the final episode of series 1 you’ll know what we’re talking about.

No visit to the US would be complete without a trip to the country’s grand and elegant capital, with its pristine buildings and world-famous landmarks.

Washington DC is home to the three branches of the United States federal government, so a trip to the district is educational as well as visually stunning.

If you’re planning a trip to Washington DC, the best place to head is the National Mall – a national park which is home to a number of museums and national monuments.

Tel Aviv, Israel

Homeland isn’t set entirely in the US; there are flashbacks throughout the first series to Nicholas Brody’s time as a prisoner of war.

While we wouldn’t recommend a holiday to Iraq at the moment, there are still plenty of safe places to visit in the Middle East.

Tel Aviv is one such place, which was used for some of the filming of the second series of Homeland. The second-most populous city in Israel, Tel Aviv is a vibrant city that has plenty to offer holidaymakers.

With some fantastic beaches and a night-life that has seen it branded “the city that never sleeps”, not to mention a wealth of historic interest, you won’t get bored on a trip to Tel Aviv.
