Horizon Air Check-in

Horizon Air recommends that passengers be checked-in and at the boarding gate at least 30 minutes before the flight is scheduled to depart. The cut-off time for passengers flying domestically (with hand luggage only) is 30 minutes prior to departure. From Atlanta, Denver, Las Vegas, and Newark airports it’s 45 minutes. The cut-off check-in time for travellers taking international flights is one hour.

Horizon Air baggage allowance

Hand baggage: one carry-on bag is allowed, measuring 25 x 43 x 61 cm and a one personal item (purse, briefcase or laptop computer). Items bigger than this will be stowed in the hold; the charge is $25 per piece.

Checked: “Regular Travelers” pay $20 to check-in the first, second or third pieces of luggage. Elite Level Mileage Plan members or Delta Air Lines Medallion Diamond, Platinum, Gold, and Silver members or First Class passengers have a free checked-luggage allowance of two bags. Each bag should not exceed 22kg (50 lbs) in weight and 157cm (62in) in length.

Excess: a piece of luggage that weighs more than 22kg (50lbs) will be charged $50 in excess fees (one way). If the bag or suitcase exceeds 157cm (62in) the extra charge is $50 (160-203cm or 63-80in) one way. If the bag measures between 206-292cm (81-115in) the cost is $75 one way.

Up to five small pets (dogs, cats, rabbits, household birds, and tropical fish) may travel in the Coach cabin. The pet must stay in its container (including head and tail) at all times while onboard, and be stowed under the seat during taxi, takeoff, and landing. Horizon Air accepts most small domesticated pets (cats, dogs, ferrets, guinea pigs, hamsters, household birds, non-poisonous reptiles, pot bellied pigs, rabbits, and tropical fish) as Cargo. The fee (whether in the cabin or in the hold) is $100 each way.

Carrying musical instruments

Small musical instruments may be taken into the cabin. Items exceeding the free allowance will be charged $25 per piece and tagged for delivery to baggage claim. A fragile or bulky item may be carried as cabin-seat baggage.

In-flight service

Complimentary drinks are available on all flights. For flights between two-and-a-half and three hours long and on longer flights (including transcontinental and Hawaii and Mexico flights) there is a snacks menu, Northern Bites, from which you can buy food. There are music and movie entertainment options on some flights. A cashless cabin operates on flights. Snacks and drinks may be purchased with credit or debit cards, or with $5 vouchers that can be purchased at ticket counters in Alaska.
