It’s well known that the 2012 Olympic Games will be in London this year, but the route of the Olympic torch has just been announced.

The Olympic flame will arrive in the UK on 18 May and begin its 70-day round trip across the country from Lands End on 19 May.

Almost 8,000 people will carry the flame on its 8,000 mile journey across the UK.

The flame will visit every nation and region in the UK as well as stopping off at landmarks such as Stonehenge and the Giants Causeway.

Passing through 1,018 places as well as Dublin, Ireland, the flame will eventually make its way to the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games on 27 July.

Each torch bearer will carry the flame for about 300 metres; around 110 people will take part each day.

The flame will come within 16km (10 miles) of 95 per cent of the people in the UK, Isle of Man, Guernsey and Jersey.

Travelling everywhere from Warwick to Windsor, the torch, designed by Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby, has been tested to withstand all weather conditions.
