For many, thoughts of summer holidays feature golden sandy beaches and glorious sunshine. However, if you fancy a change of action, why not go for an adventure holiday to the French Alps?

The French resort of Val d’Isère has lots to offer hikers and bikers, with new and exciting trails for summer 2012.

The lush green hills and slopes situated near the Vanoise National Park make this location the perfect summer getaway for all adventure holiday lovers.

Mountain biking has become increasingly popular in the resort and new routes offer a thrilling ride for cyclists looking for greenery and serenity.

This summer, holidaymakers will be able to experience the merger of two bike parks, Val d’Isère and Tignes, for a more enjoyable and varied bike ride, now with the use of five lifts.

As well as this, riders will have access to a series of special tracks for both beginners and experienced riders.

There will be a staggering 21 downhill trails available, along with eight endurance runs and two cross-country circuits. There will also be an additional family ride plus a scattering of recreational zones offering refreshments and resting areas for those with tired legs.

From short family strolls and rambles, to expert endurance treks, there is something for all holiday groups to enjoy. The new cultural walking route, 7 Chapel Circuit, allows visitors to enjoy the sights at a gentle pace, perfect for families with young children.

The Solaise Express Chairlift, Olympique Cable Car and Borsat Chairlift, which offers breathtaking views, will be open every day from June 30 until September 2 2012. Prices for this lift start from €6.50.

A professional mountain guide is now on special offer from €65. Four nights’ self-catering starts from €48 per person, while four nights’ hotel bed and breakfast accommodation starts from €156 per person.
