The month of May is well and truly here, and in the travel world that means one thing – it’s the start of the summer holiday season in the Mediterranean.

For many of us, a summer holiday is still a long way off. But the season is slowly whirring into life, meaning the countdown to summer 2012 has officially begun.

With several different cultures, multiple beautiful countries, and blue seas throughout, it’s little wonder so many of us pick the Med for a holiday each year.

The strength of the pound at the moment makes this summer the ideal time to visit the likes of Spain, Italy or France.

With so many places in the Med to choose from, it can be hard to make a decision. Luckily, we’re here to give you a helping hand. So where should you visit?

For a party – Ibiza

The island of Ibiza, or to give it its native name, Eivissa, has built a worldwide reputation for dancing, partying, and generally having a good time.

Of course, there are other things to do on the Spanish island, but legendary venues such as Amnesia, Pacha and Space mean that many of Ibiza’s visitors only have clubbing on their mind.

For a chill-out – Malta

Another island in the Mediterranean, Malta is decidedly calmer than Ibiza. It makes the ideal place for a slow-moving holiday, giving you a chance to really unwind.

That’s not to say there’s nothing to do in Malta. The rugged island offers a wealth of natural beauty, and Malta’s towns and cities are steeped in history.

For an active break – Sardinia

Often overlooked when we think of a holiday in the Med, Sardinia is perfect for those who aren’t satisfied sitting on a beach for a week or two.

With an abundance of hiking routes to explore, not to mention the diving and other water sports on offer, you’ll come back more worn out than when you left.
