Thai Airways Check-in

Internet check-in opens 24 hours before departure up and closes two hours before scheduled departure. At London Heathrow, Thai recommends arriving at check-in three hours before the flight is scheduled to take off.

Thai Airways baggage allowance

Hand luggage: passengers are allowed one item of hand baggage weighing up to 7kg with maximum dimensions of 115cm (56cm + 46cm + 25cm) (or 44.85in – 21.5in x 18in x 9.75in).

Checked: Economy Class passengers have a free checked baggage allowance of 20kg (44lbs), whereas Business Class passengers are allowed 30kg (66lbs) and First Class passengers are allowed 40kg (88lbs). For flights to and from the US and Canada, two pieces of luggage are permitted – 23kg per piece for Economy and Premium Economy travellers and 32kg for First and Business Class.

Thai Airways legroom

Economy Class seats in the main cabin have a seat pitch of 86cm (34in), whereas Business Class seats have a pitch of 152cm (60in) and First Class travellers enjoy 193cm (76in) of legroom.

Pre-arranged seating

For international flights, seats are assigned during the booking process, up to 48 hours before departure. Later than this, seat assignment must be made at a Thai Airways booking office. Travellers may not choose their own seats on domestic flights.

Passenger change details

The cheapest tickets are very restricted, but passengers may “buy” some flexibility for £75. That allows travellers to make changes to flight times and dates. The cost of cancelling a flight is £100.

Child fares

Lap infants on London-Bangkok flights travel at a discount of 80 per cent of the adult fare. Children (2-11) fly for 25 per cent of the adult fare.

Senior fares

There’s no discount for older travellers.

Pets

Pets travel in the hold and are subject to excess baggage rates, as they are not considered to be valid for the standard baggage allowance. Pets must be properly crated, all necessary permits such as export certificates must be obtained prior to departure, and Thai Airways staff should be notified at least 48 hours before your flight.

Carrying musical instruments

Standard baggage conditions, including excess size and weight rules, apply to musical instruments. The airline warns that musical instruments may be among items unsuitable for checked baggage if they are fragile.

In-flight service

Thai Airways’ interactive Audio Visual On Demand (AVOD) entertainment system offers movies, music, TV programmes, as well as news and travel information services and games.

Air miles

Royal Orchid Plus. Miles may be earned from Thai Airways flights as well as flights via other Star Alliance members and flights to Bangkok through certain other codeshare partners.

In-flight magazine

Sawasdee is Thai Airways’ in-flight magazine. The publication, whose name is a Thai greeting, contains a range of lifestyle and travel content as well as news and reviews relating to accommodation, nightlife, restaurants and other attractions. Sawasdee is read by around two million passengers per month.

Thai Airways is a founding member of Star Alliance, the first and largest air transport network in the world. Partners include Lufthansa, United Airlines, Air Canada, Singapore Airlines and SAS Scandinavian Airlines.
